Careless Sons by Tonymanillapr
R*E*P*E*A*T Commander-in-Chief, Richard Rose, taught singer/guitarist Dickon Collinson to play at the impressionable age of seven. Every week after school, they would meet in a freezing mobile classroom in the belly of the Fens to thrash out ‘Pretty Vacant’, ‘Substitute’ and ‘You Love Us’. ‘Rocking stardom roads ahead for this extremely gifted band’ – Forkster ‘Emotive and hook laden’ - Back Seat Mafia ‘A refreshing pop rock round’ - The Manchester Culture Show Fast forward a decade. Dickon meets singer/guitarist Rob D’Ath and bass player Ben Donnelly (childhood allies with a somewhat unhealthy teenage crush on The Beatles, Queen and Bruce Springsteen) at a university poker night. In the penniless aftermath, Careless Sons was forged. The boys write about love, loss, regret and redemption, with tunes that are at once ear-grapplingly melodic, aggressively forthright and yet hopelessly sentimental. Having toured their refreshingly charming brand of literate pop rock across the UK over the past two years, supporting To Kill A King, CHILDCARE and gaining BBC radio play. Heartbreak Major’ showcases the sound of an exciting young band beginning to stretch its legs, with a style akin to your favourite pair of jeans; distressed, full of holes and enviably sexy.

North Base - Ear Pressure by NEMESIS RECORDINGS UK
Nemesis Recordings Presents NORTH BASE - Waiting EP Beatport - http://btprt.dj/24aOIZN Itunes - http://apple.co/1S4oOol Silver, Splice and Prophecy make up Manchester’s finest, North Base. After cuts on Viper Recordings, Hospital Records, Shogun Audio, New State Music, and more, they return to hometown imprint Nemesis Recordings for the release of the Waiting EP, six booming and blasting tunes which are sure to rock their way through 2016 and beyond. After a succession of remixes for Ms Dynamite, Laidback Luke, SL2 and others, North Base have been supported by the likes of Skrilliex, Sub Focus, MistaJam and Matrix & Futurebound to name a few. Diverse and high quality throughout, the Waiting EP is set to stun. Down System leads things off, warming things off with an ominous, creeping intro and tougher than leather electronic kicks. Fans old and new will appreciate the sound of this one, as it makes the perfect start to this dynamic EP. Next is Now We’re Talkin, which continues the vibe, with some nice keyboard melodies flowing over the top of the drums. Taking cues from influences like Daft Punk and Andy C, this one firmly has the North Base Stamp all over it. How Do I Know is the third track, which take a more contemplative and soulful path, with mournful female vocals flowing over a rolling break. Something for all the liquid soldiers out there, this one is really something special. Strings and chords move in and out of the mix, resulting in a track of perfect balance and emotion. Get locked into Blurred Vision, which draws in elements of the old skool rave sound to give the EP yet another direction. Building up nicely to a smooth main section, this one shows off the boys’ dedication to and knowledge of the music. Ear Pressure turns things towards the dark side once again, with some seriously heavy bass and vibrating effects. Convulsing, heavyweight basslines run up and down this one, instructing you to move your body and get involved. Closer Inflatable Skies sums things up perfectly, with floating electronics and street-ready beats blended to create something quite beautiful.

Meanwhile, Gorgeous Bully's Thomas Crang moved to Manchester and with no such restrictions on his time, spent 5 years of unemployment ascending the stairs of bedroom-pop stardom whilst sharing a steady stream of songs that are "ugly and bummed and uncomfortable in all the right ways." Tracklisting 1. Just Like Before 2. Beaucoup 3. My Kid 4. Shake Fist at Sky Tracks 1-2 recorded at Delicious Clam, Sheffield and in Thomas's bedroom, Manchester. Convulsing, heavyweight basslines run up and down this one, instructing you to move your body and get involved. Closer Inflatable Skies sums things up perfectly, with floating electronics and street-ready beats blended to create something quite beautiful.

Eurovision Song Contest: A Musical Spectacle #history #podcasts #trivia by TriviaPeople.com
ABBA performing "Waterloo" during the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest. On this date in 1974, ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest with their song “Waterloo.” Here are some things you might not known about the contest. In the years following World War II, European broadcasting leaders were searching for a unifying entertainment icon that would bring the continent together. In 1955, the idea of an international song contest was brought up. It would involve a live broadcast with participating countries submitting and performing two songs. The first contest took place in Lugano, Switzerland and was known as the Eurovision Song Contest Grand Prix. Because satellite broadcasting did not yet exist, the program was transmitted though a terrestrial microwave network. Seven countries participated in the first contest: Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Switzerland. Since then, 52 countries have participated, however not all of them have been from Europe. Some of the non-European entrants include Israel and Cyprus, which are on the Asian continent; Morocco, which is in north Africa; and Australia, which is in Australia. Germany has competed in 59 of the 60 song contests, winning in 1982 and 2010. Portugal is the country that has participated most often without winning; they have yet to win in 48 tries. The country with the most victories is Ireland, which has won the contest seven times. Sweden has won six times, including 1974, when ABBA won. In 2005, “Waterloo” was selected as the most popular song in the history of the contest. Although the contest is immensely popular, with nearly 200 million television viewers, it is not much of a launching pad for performers. Of the 60 winners, only ABBA and Celine Dion went on to worldwide stardom. Of the 60 winning entries, 58 have included women, either performing solo or in a group. Our question: What country won the Eurovision Song Contest in its first year as an independent nation? Today is National Hostess Twinkie Day, National Siamese Cat Day and National Caramel Popcorn Day. It’s the birthday of artist Raphael, the co-discoverer of DNA James Watson, and musician Merle Haggard. This week in 1974, the top song in the U.S. was “Hooked on a Feeling” by Blue Swede. The No. 1 movie was “The Great Gatsby,” while the novel “Burr” by Gore Vidal topped the New York Times Bestsellers list. Links Follow us on Twitter, Facebook or our website. HER AGAIN by Michael Schulman by HarperAudio_US
Read by Eliza Foss About the Book A portrait of a woman, an era, and a profession: the first thoroughly researched biography of Meryl Streep—the “Iron Lady” of acting, nominated for nineteen Oscars and winner of three—that explores her beginnings as a young woman of the 1970s grappling with love, feminism, and her astonishing talent. In 1975 Meryl Streep, a promising young graduate of the Yale School of Drama, was finding her place in the New York theater scene. Burning with talent and ambition, she was like dozens of aspiring actors of the time—a twenty-something beauty who rode her bike everywhere, kept a diary, napped before performances, and stayed out late “talking about acting with actors in actors’ bars.” Yet Meryl stood apart from her peers. In her first season in New York, she won attention-getting parts in back-to-back Broadway plays, a Tony Award nomination, and two roles in Shakespeare in the Park productions. Even then, people said, “Her. Again.” Her Again is an intimate look at the artistic coming-of-age of the greatest actress of her generation, from the homecoming float at her suburban New Jersey high school, through her early days on the stage at Vassar College and the Yale School of Drama during its golden years, to her star-making roles in The Deer Hunter, Manhattan, and Kramer vs. Kramer. New Yorker contributor Michael Schulman brings into focus Meryl’s heady rise to stardom on the New York stage; her passionate, tragically short-lived love affair with fellow actor John Cazale; her marriage to sculptor Don Gummer; and her evolution as a young woman of the 1970s wrestling with changing ideas of feminism, marriage, love, and sacrifice. Featuring eight pages of black-and-white photos, this captivating story of the making of one of the most revered artistic careers of our time reveals a gifted young woman coming into her extraordinary talents at a time of immense transformation, offering a rare glimpse into the life of the actress long before she became an icon.

DELTA LADY by Rita Coolidge by HarperAudio_US
Read by Rita Coolidge About the Book The two-time Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter bares her heart and soul in this intimate memoir, a story of music, stardom, love, family, heritage, and resilience. She inspired songs—Leon Russell wrote “A Song for You” and “Delta Lady” for her, Stephen Stills wrote “Cherokee.” She co-wrote songs—“Superstar” and the piano coda to “Layla,” uncredited. She sang backup for Eric Clapton, Joe Cocker, and Stills, before finding fame as a solo artist with such hits as “We're All Alone” and “(Your Love Has Lifted Me) Higher and Higher.” Following her story from Lafayette, Tennessee to becoming one of the most sought after rock vocalists in LA in the 1970s, Delta Lady chronicles Rita Coolidge’s fascinating journey throughout the ’60s-’70s pop/rock universe. A muse to some of the twentieth century’s most influential rock musicians, she broke hearts, and broke up bands. Her relationship with drummer Jim Gordon took a violent turn during the legendary 1970 Mad Dogs & Englishmen tour; David Crosby maintained that her triangle with Stills and Graham Nash was the last straw for the group. Her volatile six-year marriage to Kris Kristofferson yielded two Grammys, a daughter, and one of the Baby Boom generation’s epic love stories. Throughout it all, her strength, resilience, and inner and outer beauty—along with her strong sense of heritage and devotion to her family—helped her to not only survive, but thrive. Co-written with best-selling author Michael Walker, Delta Lady is a rich, deeply personal memoir that offers a front row seat to an iconic era, and illuminates the life of an artist whose career has helped shape modern American culture.

Dousk & Jorgio Kioris - One Man (Pole Folder Remix) | 238W INC. 238W064 by ▲ 238W INC
The 64th release on John Johnson's 238W Inc. imprint welcomes Dousk & Jorgio Kioris to the label for their debut single. As a long time favourite of John Digweed, Dousk's career began on Bedrock Records. Subsequent appearances on Global Underground and Vapour Recordings sealed what has now been a 15 year career of cutting edge electronic music. Fellow Greek artist Jorgio Kioris is perhaps best known for being the owner and founder of the Bloque Festival, one of his country's foremost electronic music events. Of late, Jorgio has also made his mark in the studio, turning out stellar releases for Cid Inc's Replug Records. Now for the 64th release on 238W we see Dousk and Jorgio presenting their first collaborative project entitled 'One Man' alongside remixes from Khen and Pole Folder. The meeting of two creative minds is always exciting and the Greek duo have certainly fused their most loved production hallmarks here. Beginning with rugged bass stabs, smart tonal designs and quirky hooks, it's nose for the dance floor is immediately evident. A vocal storyboard only adds to its esoteric appeal while a sequence of chord changes teases the emotions just a touch. Stripping down into the main break, the bass tones carry the groove before getting washed away in a trail of sonic dust, culminating with a rush of noise and the irresistible hooks which take you home. A unique and inspired production from Dousk and Jorgio. The first interpretation of 'One Man' is provided by Khen who is making his first appearance on the label. Hailing from Israel, the 27 year old artist has been at the core of his countries electronic music culture for the last several years. With a groovy, emotional sound that's all his own the future seems to hold only the brightest of moments for Khen. His releases on Lost & Found, microCastle and Sudbeat continually top the Beatport charts, while earning play from Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Sasha, Guy J and Guy Mantzur. The fourth quarter of 2015 proved to be the strongest of Khen's career. Now following a quiet start to 2016 we see him turn in a superb rendition of 'One Man' for his first production of the year. Anchored by a full, round and immaculately carved groove the mix begins with an immediate charm. Marvellously reshaped, the lead hooks prove deadly amidst a percussive framework and effects storyboard. An expertly executed main break proves to be the eventual highlight, as tonal designs intensify with a wall of sonic decay and trailing metallic sheets further obliterating your senses. It's an electric moment, and one which preludes and even better finale. A massive remix from Khen which you're bound to be hearing a lot in the coming months. The second and final interpretation of 'One Man' is provided by Pole Folder who is also making his first appearance on the label. The Belgian producer rose to electronic music stardom in 2001 when a string of productions including ‘Apollo Vibes' and ‘Dust' were signed to John Digweed's Bedrock Records. The label then commissioned Pole Folder to record his first studio album entitled ‘Zero Gold' which was released in 2004. Fast forward over 12 years and the Belgian artist remains a staple of the industry's top labels from Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music, to rising brands like Soundteller Records, Sound Avenue and his own Reworck imprint. There are few better at crafting emotional, atmospheric sound stories than Pole Folder, and he's certainly done that once again on his 'One Man' interpretation. Backed by a soft ambience; it's glacial flow, bulging bass tones and cinematic swells paint a gorgeous sonic collage. Indistinct vocals add a trippy flair, particularly during the break, as spaced out spirals descend over the framework leading to an exhilarating rush of beats, drums and icy pads for the ultimate dance floor moment. A wonderful remix from Pole Folder which rounds out a release full of variety and talent from 238W Inc. Don't miss it. Words by Mitch Alexander!

Dousk & Jorgio Kioris - One Man (Original Mix) | 238W INC.
North Base - Inflatable Skies by NEMESIS RECORDINGS UK
Nemesis Recordings Presents NORTH BASE - Waiting EP 1. Down System 2. Now We’re Talkin 3. How Do I Know (feat) Alicia King 4. Blurred Vision 5. Ear Pressure 6. Inflatable Press Release Full Release: 1st May 2016 Cat: NRD022 Silver, Splice and Prophecy make up Manchester’s finest, North Base.

From the CD 30 -Abraham's Children - I DO by Jimi Bertucci
Apologies for some of the imperfections of the tape this was a lost cassette with some challenges, but you get the idea of the song. Many of our fans thought this tune had a bit of The Raspberries. Review Jimi B. (which is for Bertucci) is another Canadian who is heading up the ladder of success. It has taken Jimi 10 years to be called an overnight sensation, but he is finally attaining a certain amount of that elusive quantity know as stardom. For anyone who feels he might be a trivia freak, it was Jimi B. who started Abraham's Children, and yes it was their Goddess Of Nature that was released on the United Artists Records. Score top marks for getting both those right. Anyway, Jimi's self titled album on A&M Records should help introduce him to some new fans. While there are some losers here (Shake) there are some winners like All American Boy and some good songs that are on the border of good (Bodies In The River, Strange Feeling). The set will not be a runnaway hit, but could garner a fair amount of interest. Barry Sweeney. http://ift.tt/1X7Sgbi www.jimib.com

Just One Dream by Avery
Beat credit of 'Trillbeatz'. Lyrics: Where's our creativity gone it Seems like we pawned it For alcohol and somebody to bond with They lay in our arms as we watch reruns Of lazy TV moms Til we aren't responsive Pass judgement through our boxes Hold grudges so noxious Smoke smudges our optics Broke budget but covet our objects The heart is fabled We seek to keep clean and able Objectives serene when they aren't unstable Get sex tips from 'zines on the doctors table Next in the seat texting a greeting sending a tweet connection is fleeting Flex wince repeat To make ends meet but ends rip ravines when you're part of label I'm a mash up of my media Flung from tumblr tongue from wikipedia Give my money up then get greedier Pictures with me are strung in sepia This part of the songs demonstrations a condemnation of nations of bombs and impatient ones lacing their arms frustration strong part of the wrong generation On a horse with the wrong elevation Puff pass hit a bong celebration For a seven minute long elation Relationships wander on vacation I'm surrounded by emptiness Empathy tempting me Wrenching my empty chest Derelict entropy With every answer yes Since elementary We don't let them teach us With what the inks imprinted just In sync with instinctiveness Jet fix is to beg forgiveness From all this wretched business Hedge bets with prestigiousness On your death bed wish list Crumbling mumbling you should have done something What with all of the suns that youve done seen Come and go and you know the one thing your left wanting is just one dream just one more, only thing you're left wanting is just one dream cause you spent all your time in a bind pushing green That's a life to rue not a life to rule with A life to screw with, a life to lose, a life of capsule sized chew mints, Derived from the advertisements that they trap you with Yeah you may see right through it And pop it on a vlog, doctored monologue Where the truth sits, But kanyes got a new pair of shoes So your YouTube views got two hits I don't hate modernity I just hate feeling like I do not have an identity And I'm real sick of the shit they been sending me Can't have my attention then you can't have a friend in me Most days I can't even create a face Hypocritical nympho a plain disgrace changing the way that I sit though don't change the way That we're all just info in a database And I don't mind That's the worst part Ive been trying from the verses start To remind myself of my morals but its hard to be formal with a burst heart After we'll have to regret it The chapter of the apathetic Will plaster the past with its rhetoric Humans shall consume and die, don't you're a heretic So what do I long for? I don't know, i don't know what to do im so indecisive i dont even try i'm still having troubling choosing a tattoo what represents me? what can make ends meet what if my friends leave what if it tempts me to climb a high cliff after my shift take off my shoes and then jump off the end meet death on the way tell em "hey like the hoodie the scythes a bit scary suppose that it should be which way am i headed up down back or middle" he'd shake me and blatantly say with a grin though "im afraid that it aint that simple" time to drink that payback vimto to waylay your rage, have you liked our afterlife facebook page? Heh. shit no. Sometimes the voice in my head Tries to convince the others I'm schizo They only go dead when I'm blitzed so I'm tumbling back again i should pack it in acting do you get the gist yo? caught in the awkward part of stardom The start of it, so it's hard not to be miserable
